The results of a pilot test are presented devoted to study two tools to support multimodal reading modality, ClaroRead and ReadSpeak, as an example of the application of universal instructional design, at the University of Barcelona. To evaluate the impact of the tools different types of surveys and use tests were done involving a quite big sample of students, and also faculty staff. The results provide insight into reading problems of users, and into the enhancements provided by a multimodal reading.
