The transformations in relation to the use of technologies in educational spaces have accelerated; But this has also brought with it implications that may go unnoticed by users. Therefore, the present study aims to analyze how the use of digital laboratories could contribute to the democratization of knowledge. To achieve this, a qualitative approach with an exploratory descriptive scope was used that, through interviews with authorities from a public educational institution and experts from Ecuador, Mexico and Colombia, allowed us to gain an understanding of the phenomenon. As main results, it can be mentioned that there are important challenges to take into account, such as: budget cuts affect public education; In addition, access to payment platforms is restricted. It is also worth mentioning that the use of virtual laboratories can contribute to the teaching-learning process but that the majority of the resources are provided by private institutions that have a cost. Despite this, possibilities are also emerging for initiatives that develop free-access virtual laboratories, contextualized and that use different resources such as virtual reality to motivate learning.
