ChatGPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer), as a language model based on artificial intelligence, generates understandable texts in different scientific disciplines from stored data. Its employability is based on computational thinking in understanding human behavior and on connectivist theory. The research aims to understand the use of ChatGPT in academic writing in university students in Lima, Peru from the discourse of teachers, students and experts. The approach was qualitative, the data were obtained from a semi-structured in-depth interview with a hermeneutic phenomenological design of a sample of 10 university students, 10 teachers and 2 experts, the results were analyzed with Heidegger's interpretive method.
The results are illustrated in figures, Sankey diagrams and semantic networks where they show that students and teachers have a positive response to ChatGPT, who regularly use it in the writing of academic texts, and they also affirm that its pertinent use provides various types of cohesive, coherent and adequate texts; In addition, the academic community perceives ChatGPT as a versatile and useful tool within the university, as it allows academic activities to be carried out, reduces the time spent on tasks and improves writing.
