Peer review process

In order to ensure the quality of publications, articles are reviewed by experts of recognised standing in the field of educational technology. This process is carried out through a double-blind peer review system, thus guaranteeing the anonymity of both authors and reviewers.

Edutec uses the Open Journal System for editorial management. The entire review process is conducted through this platform (http://www.edutec.es/revista).

Once a manuscript is submitted to Edutec, an automatic email is sent to the authors, containing the reference number and the URL where the status of the article can be monitored throughout the review process.

The evaluation process begins with a preliminary review by the editorial team, focusing on thematic alignment and formal aspects. At this stage, authors are informed of any necessary adjustments prior to peer review, the rejection of the submission, or progression to the next stage.

If appropriate, the manuscript is sent for external review. External review is conducted anonymously and by experts in the relevant field. If there are significant discrepancies between evaluations, additional reviewers may be consulted. The editorial team provides reviewers with the necessary documentation (anonymised manuscript, protocol, and evaluation form) via the journal's editorial platform.

Based on the reviewers’ reports, the editorial team will decide whether to accept or reject the manuscript, or request modifications prior to acceptance.

Authors will receive the editorial decision along with a report outlining the strengths and weaknesses of the manuscript.

If modifications are required, the author(s) must submit a revised version of the manuscript, along with a document summarising the changes made and justifying any changes not implemented, within a maximum of 15 days. The revised manuscript will be returned to the original reviewer(s) for further evaluation.

Estimated timelines:

  • Initial review: 1 month
  • First decision on reviewed manuscripts: 3 months
  • From submission to acceptance: 5 months
  • From acceptance to publication: 6 months

Manuscript evaluation criteria

During the review process, the following quality criteria will be considered for submissions to the journal:

  • Originality.
  • Topicality and relevance.
  • Methodological rigour.
  • Relevant content.
  • Clear writing style.
  • Formal quality according to the author guidelines.
  • Ethical compliance.

Use of AI in the review of submissions

Manuscript review is an activity based on trust and confidentiality. Therefore, the use of generative AI tools to process or analyse manuscripts under review is not permitted.

Such tools may be justified as technical support (e.g., for plagiarism detection, grammar correction or style suggestions), always under human supervision. Under no circumstances should AI tools replace the responsibility of making editorial or acceptance/rejection decisions.
