The technology Object of Learning was a solution provided to the need to have reusable educational resources that contribute to greater access to knowledge. The learning objects, from their conception, provide numerous advantages to the reuse and accessibility of the contents, however, it has not been generalized. The evolution of the definition of learning objects together with the need to produce educational resources in a socially responsible perspective gave rise to open educational resources. These resources are important materials, characterized by their potential to facilitate the expansion of learning; sometimes they are confused with learning objects, using both terms indistinctly. This paper presents a comparison between learning objects and open educational resources, highlighting points of contact and differences, as well as their use in higher education.
