Benefits of Artificial Intelligence in University Students' Learning: A Systematic Review

Artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing higher education by enhancing personalization, equity, and accessibility in learning. This study presents a systematic and bibliometric review of research published between 2016 and 2024, focusing on the benefits of AI in university students' learning. A total of 178 studies were analyzed, sourced from the Scopus database, using a mixed-methods approach that combines qualitative and quantitative analyses.
The findings reveal that AI enhances academic performance by personalizing learning, providing instant feedback, and optimizing study strategies. Additionally, it fosters student autonomy by offering tools for self-directed learning with continuous support. In terms of accessibility, AI adapts educational materials to individual needs and overcomes economic and geographical barriers.
Despite these advancements, the reviewed studies highlight the need for long-term research to assess its sustained impact on cognitive and socio-emotional skill development. Furthermore, expanding AI implementation in contexts with limited technological resources is recommended to ensure its benefits are inclusive and equitable.
