Technology appropriation of virtual university rural students

There are two major objectives in the present study: to describe the conditions of student's immersion in a virtual university, and to know the perception about their ICT appropriation. The investigation follows a qualitative methodology based in focus groups and interviews, with students and teachers. The results show an unequal access to the ICT between rural and urban students; in relation with the appropriation factors the students pointed to the attitude and motivation aspects, the teachers name institutional issues. We suggest giving a better support in the development of rural student's digital skills in order to contribute a major ICT appropriation.
