Collaborative learning through online communities of practice: the e-Catalunya environment

The development and implementation of online communities of practice (CoP) in the public administration of Catalonia is an incipient matter. This paper reports on an experience with 3 main objectives: (1) to introduce the e-Catalunya platform as a model of communication and online learning based on CoP; (2) to describe the foundations of this model; and (3) to analyse the assessment of more than 200 moderators and participants, from 8 CoP, of its functioning.
From the outcomes we can gather that the e-Catalunya meets needs of moderators and participants because it integrates lots of tools and it increases the possibilities of sharing documents, creating knowledge, and encouraging learning. Likewise, some clarifications are made as regards this environment in order to be more sucessful and be widely welcomed.
