"THE USE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNICATION (ITC) IN EDUCATION. DETERMINING FACTORS FOR THE SUCCESS OF INNOVATE TEACHING PRACTICE"

Abstract

The authors stress some of the main points to be taken into consideration for the succesful introduction of IT&T (Information Technologies and Telecommunications) in educational fields. They base their reflections on their work and experience at the Educational Technology Office (GATE) of the UPM.

They have classified the principal factors at three levels: (1) Institutional level: Training for teachers in order to implement IT&T, infrastructure availability and economic support, choosing consolidated technologies and technical support, student-teacher ratio, dissemination of pilot experiences, teacher motivation, (2) Pedagogical level teacher's role and subsequent educational models and (3) Technical level: different communication structures depending on the different combinations of the technologies used.

THE DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION OF NEW COMPUTER BASED TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE TEACHING OF BASIC INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Abstract:

Nowadays it is available a powerful educational tool. Computer based New Tecnologies applied to Education (NTF). The process of developing and applying these tecnologies to real cases is still being largely researched. An experiment on Basic Computing Science based on N.T.F techniques has been developed at the School of Mining Engineering of the UPM, in Madrid. This experiment has been put into effect in two stages: the first one was experimental, selecting a group among the students and testing the hypothesis and methodologies. The second stage, a real life test was conducted in the Algebra first year course. For this experiment it has been used a computer network where there have been implemented a number of didactic units. The role of the professsor is to coordinate, supervise and support the students complementing the self training scheme provided by this N.T.F. system.

THE EVALUATION OF EDUCATIONAL SOFTWARE: A STUDY OF HYPERTEXTS IN UNIVERSITY EDUCATION.

Abstract:

In this presentation we briefly describe an evaluative study of software in progress at the University of Sevilla, concerning a hypertext application we have developed and implemented in the university environment.

One phase of this study consists of a pilot program, which attempts to determine user perceptions as to the limitations and possiblities of the application for both educators and students. Another phase, using analysis of these first evaluations, is to contruct a more specific instrument for continued evaluation, and its corresponding categorized system of analysis and qualitative data.
